About Feeding Programmes aimed at Schools

Most of our feeding programmes are aimed at schools in Soweto, Slovoville and Kagiso, particularly primary schools serving informal settlements. Often the meal these children receive at school is their only one of the day. Vegetables, bread and supplements such as soya, soup mix, cooking oil, salt and other supplements are delivered to schools where they are cooked on equipment generally supplied (and still owned) by AFFT by members of the school governing body or parents recruited by the SGB, so as to maximize community empowerment and ownership of the projects.

Feeding school children

The equipment supplied by AFFT comprises gas cookers, gas cylinders, pots, ladles, spoons and, sometimes, soup bowls and spoons for the children. Some schools have an AFFT deep freeze on loan.
