Sifiso
Hi, my name is Sifiso D. I am 14 years old. I live with my mother, who is not at all well. Over the last 3 months, Africa Food for Thought has been bringing us food every month. My mother is so much better and stronger. She has even found a job, looking after a granny. She only earns R400 a month doing this, but I am so proud of her. I think she is proud of herself too.
I really enjoy learning English at school. I am an ambitious person - one day I would love to be the President of this country which I love so much. I enjoy soccer, chicken and rice and Mr Qulwa, one of my teachers. I would really love to visit Little Falls one day. It sounds really cool!

Note: When we first interviewed Sifiso's mother, her cupboards were completely bare. She literally had a few drops of Sunflower oil and about a cup of maize meal. We suspect that she was so unwell because she was letting Sifiso eat first (a cultural thing), and there was very little left for herself. We see this kind of sacrifice so often, but it still fills us with awe. We think that, with the food from AFFT, she is herself getting better nutrition, enabling her to get work - and the upward spiral starts!
